Tobacco yellow dwarf virus
(TYDV)
Tobacco yellow dwarf virus (TYDV) belongs to Geminiviridae family, Subgroup I Geminivirus genus (figure 1). This virus is transmitted by the leafhopper Orosius argentatus in a persistent manner.
- Symptoms
The leaves are chlorotic, small and tend to curve downward. Plant growth is significantly reduced, plants are stunted.
- Characteristics
This virus has a restricted distribution. It has been reported from Australia. Under artificial inoculation, it can infect many hosts, such as tomato and Datura stramonium (figure 2). It also infects beans. Some of the measures proposed to control stolbur of solanaceae can also be used to control this virus, see Protection Methods of Candidatus phytoplasma sp. (Stolbur, Big bud).
