Drought spots
Occasionally a red-brown necrosis between the veins of the lower leaves of tobacco plants can be observed (figures 1 and 2). It often occurs simultaneously in several fields of the same production area. In general dark tobacco varieties seem more sensitive to this disease.
The origin of this most likely physiological condition is not clearly known. It could be due to a temporary rupture of water supply to plants, which would be reflected immediately in the leaves by their partial wilting. Unfortunately, once these lesions appear, there is nothing to do.
