Diseases related to agricultural practices
From time to time in floating seedbeds trays one may observe a reduction in seedling growth due to excessive irrigation and / or use of water loaded with high levels of calcium bicarbonate (figure 1) or water poor in mineral elements (N, P, K. ..) (figure 2). On the other hand, an increase in the concentration of soluble salts may occur at the soil surface especially in poorly irrigated nurseries. Under these conditions, seedlings turn yellow, become brown along the leaf blade and dry up. Several consecutive waterings over the top usually solve this problem.
There are always some risks to cause chemical injuries when using pesticides. This may be particularly true in the following cases:
- the deleterious effect of a herbicide (figure 3);
- the use of an overdose of a pesticide (figure 4), applied in poor conditions or in combination with incompatible substances (figure 5).
To confirm the phytotoxicity, we recommend you to consult information on various chemical injuries and their different symptoms so that you are further assisted with your diagnosis.
