Methods of protection
As in the case of many soil-borne diseases raging on plants, the fight against Armillaria mellea is very difficult in the vineyard.
- Choose a well draining plot that is not liable to flooding.
- Avoid previous crops such as woody plants, and find out if Armillaria attacks have not already been observed in the chosen plot.
- Carefully remove all woody debris (especially roots.) When breaking up, these could serve either as nutritive bases or as sources of inoculum.
- Use healthy plant material when planting.
- If replanting is planned, locate the foci in the plot and carefully pull out the diseased or dead plants. Let the soil sit for 4 to 5 years during which we will cultivate cereals. Barley seems particularly recommended because it would produce exudates having a slightly inhibiting effect on the growth of the Armillaria mycelium.
- Delimit the beginner foci in the plots by making deep trenches.
- No fungicide is currently registered for armillary use on vines ( e-phy ).
