 Stem split (Physiological split)



Occasionally, one can observe longitudinal stem splits in a few tobacco plants (figure 1). They often reflect an excess of plant vigour which may occur especially after a climatic and water stress. Generally, these splits do not affect the plants much, and are of no consequence to them, scar tissues quickly cover the wounds.
