Symptoms
Moist, soft lesions spreading rapidly to mostly mature fruit. Affected tissue liquefies and eventually collapses, the cuticle splits (Figure 1). Juice flows may be observed. The mycelium of the fungus invades the tissues, covered by a whitish to greyish mold (Figures 2 and 3). This mold is made up of the mycelium, sporocystophores and sporocysts of this Zygomycete. In the long term, numerous rather aerial fruiting bodies, in “black pinheads”, form on the damaged tissues (figures 4 and 5).
