Protection methods

  • During cultivation
As soon as the first symptoms are noticed during cultivation, the plants should be treated as quickly as possible with a fungicide . ( Note that no fungicide is currently approved for this use in France ) ( e-phy ). Repeat applications after heavy rains and sprinkler irrigation. These promote the spread of the disease; so they will be carried out at the end of the morning, in no case late in the afternoon or during the night, in order to avoid that the plants remain wet all night long. The crops should not be stressed and will receive a balanced manure, especially nitrogen.

As far as possible, as much plant debris as possible (leaves, stems, etc.) will be removed during and at the end of the crop.

  • Next crop
If the following nursery takes place at the same location as the previous year, soil disinfection and / or preventive fungicide applications will be carried out. In some countries, you may be wary of the quality of plants that can transmit the disease.

should be Weeds that eliminated may serve as intermediate hosts . In addition, avoid planting a crop near other sensitive crops , such as peppers and eggplant, or in areas where these have been produced in recent years.

It may be advantageous to use lower planting densities which allow good aeration of the vegetation and good wiping of it after rains or sprinkler irrigation. This measure also makes it possible to obtain rather vigorous plants. It will be preferable to irrigate the plants by drip rather than by sprinkling.

Fungicide treatments must be applied preventively with the active mentioned above ( ingredients Note that no fungicide is currently approved for this use in France ).

A genetic resistance from high to S. solani has been shown there for many years. Derived from Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium , it is controlled by the dominant “ gene Sm ” located on chromosome 11. The latter is in fact effective against all species Stemphylium attacking tomatoes. This resistance is particularly stable since it has never been overcome to date. It is present in various tomato cultivars available in many countries without always being reported.

* Chemical control : As the number of pesticides available for a given use is constantly changing, we advise you to always confirm your choice by consulting the e-phy site of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries which is an online catalog of plant protection products and their uses, fertilizers and growing media approved in France. This also applies to all biological products based on microorganisms or natural substances.
