Detection and control measures
CMV can be detected by the Elisa test using polyclonal antibodies.
Because of the low economic significance of this virus on potatoes, no specific treatment is usually required. Transmission of the CMV by aphids can be reduced by mineral oil application used to control PVA or PVY. Recent research on the genetic resistance of the potato to this virus has revealed important differences in cultivar susceptibility. No extreme resistance has been shown in South American Solanum spp. which are resistant to most major potato viruses.
