Curative Measures

Treat the affected plot with Perlot. Depending on the situation, broomrape develops more or less early in the season. Perlot treatments will be adapted to the specific context of the field. The producer and technician may decide to compromise between broomrape and tobacco. Ideally, apply 12l/ha of Perlot in the field at the recommended stage for inhibition (treating the seeds will limit the increase of seed stock in the soil).

Monitor the tobacco plots which were infested with broomrape in previous years. Growth abnormalities (yellowing, stunting) are often observed before total decay of the tobacco plant in cases of severe infestation.

Plant a trap crop. Some intercrops (colza, mustard ... ) are bridge hosts for the parasite. When planting this type of crop, one must ensure their destruction early enough (before fruiting and seed maturation) so that the seed stock of Orobanche will be exhausted.

In cases of high infestation it is better not to plant tobacco or other host plants in that plot.
