The most common disease of chestnut, apart from ink, is that caused by Cryphonectria parasitica, the symptoms of which are cankers on the trunk and stems.

Another disease, called javart, causes cankers and is most often observed on already weakened trees.

The main leaf disease of chestnut is septoria.
