Symptoms of root-knot nematodes on Solanaceae

 

  • Organs attacked :
Roots
  • Gradually browning white galls, their sizes may vary depending on the species of Meloidogyne .

  • Swellings more or less tortuous and extended along the roots.

  • Leaf chlorosis and leaf wilt occurring during the hottest hours of the day.

  • Leaf and plant desiccations.
  • Reduced plant development and fruit size.

  • Distribution of diseased plants in foci

 

  • Signs : mature females evidenced by making a cross section in the galls.
  • Possible confusion : very specific root symptoms, beware of legumes not to confuse galls with nodules.
  • Production areas affected :

  •  Meloidogyne spp. reported on Solanaceae : Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid & White, 1919) Chitwood, 1949, Meloidogyne javanica (Treub, 1885) Chitwood, 1949.
