Protection Methods

Many methods proposed for controlling Meloidogyne spp. can also be used for Pratylenchus spp., see the fact sheet.
 
Crop rotation should be chosen carefully, given the wide host range of these nematodes. The plants listed above and other plants such as oat, sweet potato, rice, various vegetables and weeds should not be used as rotational crops (figure 1).

Varieties resistant to Meloidogyne incognita may show some resistance to Pratylenchus, which could help to reduce the  impact of the latter in countries where these varieties are cultivated on a large scale. In addition, there could be differences in susceptibility among tobacco cultivars.
