Main Symptoms

Pratylenchus spp. cause lesions of varying size on the roots. Their colour varies from yellowish to reddish brown or black. Eventually, portions in the cortex decay. When the attacks are severe, a large proportion of the root system may disappear (figures 1-5).

In this case, plants are stunted, they may even turn yellow and wilt during hot days.

Some of the information on the worldwide distribution of the disease is obtained from surveys conducted by CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco). The reliability of the information is not confirmed in all countries.
