Tobacco vein mottling virus
(TVMV)

- classification : Potyviridae, Potyvirus

The distribution of tobacco vein mottling virus (TVMV, figure 1) is very limited and certainly not well known. It has been mainly reported in the United States where it may cause serious damage, far more severe compared to damage caused by PVY or TEV on Burley tobacco. In addition, this virus seriously affects Virginia type tobacco in North Carolina. TVMV also occurs in combination with TEV, the combination of these two viruses is very notorious among U.S. growers, particularly in Kentucky.

This virus has also been observed in Portugal, Colombia and China. In addition, a variant of TVMV, causing small white necrotic spots has been reported in Zambia, it is serologically related to PVY. It has not been observed in France.
