Main Symptoms


Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci mainly causes leaf spots on seedbeds and on adult plants in field. The spots are initially small in size and greasy (figures 1 to 3). Later on they become necrotic and quickly turn brown (figures 4 to 9).

Lesions may conflate on lamina (Figure 10), and altered tissues rotten and fall (Figure 11). With tabtoxine producing strains, the spots are surrounded by a more or less marked yellow halo (figure 12).


Some of the information on the worldwide distribution of the disease is obtained from surveys conducted by CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco). The reliability of the information is not confirmed in all countries.
