Dryocosmus kuriphilus : the chestnut gall wasp
The chestnut gall wasp is a hymenopteran insect of the Cynipidae family named Dryocosmus kuriphilus, originating from China. It is a quarantine pest on leaves and buds reproducing on chestnut trees (see page "Biology of Dryocosmus kuriphilus" and "Symptoms of chestnut blight").
Several biological control solutions are being studied to limit the damage caused by this pest (see page "Management of the chestnut gall wasp").
In the forest, dry galls caused by the cankerworm could be a gateway to the chestnut canker.
