Trimming, topping

 

  • Procedure  : removal of the ends of twigs growing upwards (topping) or on the sides (trimming)
  • Phytosanitary interests :
    • Limit the vegetative volume exposed to diseases (less crowding of vegetation) and prevent the vines from falling 
  • Interests of the technique :
    • Allow the passage of gear in the inter row
    • Promote the ripening of fruit branches bearing grapes and control vigor
  • Induced effects :
    • Improve the sunshine of the bunches
    • Allow the sources of inoculum to be removed
