Main Symptoms

The symptoms caused by TRSV can be easily recognised. It is characterised by the presence of many irregular, often circular and concentric lines on the leaves. They are initially chlorotic and then become necrotic. They tend to be located along the veins (figures 2 à 5).

Infected plants are stunted early during the growing season and produce little or no seeds. Their pollen is sometimes sterile, which affects seed production.

Some of the information on the worldwide distribution of the disease is obtained from surveys conducted by CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco). The reliability of the information is not confirmed in all countries.
